Candida Höfer is a celebrated German photographer. Born in 1944, she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dusseldorf.
Höfer is known for her photos of public buildings. She captures them without visitors which allows her to focus on the architectural elements and their relation to the human experience.
Höfer's photographs can be found in the collections of many established institutions including the Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the Tate Modern. In 2003, Höfer represented Germany in their pavilion at the Venice Biennale. In 2018, she was the recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to Photography award.
