Presentation
Monika Debus is a ceramist born in Germany in 1961 where she still lives and works today. Her works are present in many private but also public collections.
Laureate of the Kunst am Bau in Speicher in 1997, she has since received numerous prizes throughout the world; at the Taiwan Ceramics Biennial in 2000, the Westerwaldpreis in 2001 and the Honorable and Commendations in 2014 and 2018 at the Ceramic Art in London.
Her ceramics combine abstraction and painting. Their main strength lies in a universal vocabulary and combinations of simple shapes, painted spontaneously with elementary signs, evoking a multitude of associations as individual entities. A special salt sandstone varnish gives the surface of the ceramics a subtle depth that sets them apart. Her ceramics reveal an intimate universe to us, to be read through instinctive forms and signs.
