Biography
Born in 1972, Sebastiaan Straatsma lives and works in the Netherlands.
After obtaining a Phd at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Sebastiaan Straatsma focused his artistic research on the concept of an object whose main role disappears in order to finally become a complete work of art in itself.
He likes to work particularly with vases, whether they are precious, old or contemporary, they have a special aura and their main function can be quickly forgotten by the beauty of the object itself.
He emancipates the tradition by completely assuming the new status given to the vase. He uses epoxy resin for his unique vase, that he calls "Dustcollector" they are all full of mythologic or biblical stories or even by contemporary quotes. He adds all kinds of details and elements such as characters and decoration creating reliefs and a game of color.
Parallel to his personal creations, Sebastiaan teaches design in several renowned schools such as the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. His work is already present in several museums in his country and have been exhibited several times in galleries.
