Biography

Rafael Arocha (Gran Canaria, 1978) is a photographer and teacher. In his projects he tackles a heterogeneous universe that relates us to the social and the personal. His work tries to question us about what builds us or how we communicate by projecting ourselves before an intimate echo that confronts us and familiarizes us with universal conflicts and yearnings.
He has received awards such as the First Prize of the International Image Festival of Mexico, the Fotointerpreta Scholarship of Barcelona or the PX3 Photographie de Paris. His publication No Caption (2013) together with Arnau Blanch received the Fedrigoni/PrivateSpace Award for self-published books and in 2015 he was awarded the 1st Prize at the Cordoba Biennial for Self-publishing for his book Medianoche, which has also been a finalist in the Rencontres Book Award. (Arles, 2015). His work was recently included in the group exhibitions Un Cierto Panorama. Reciente fotografía de autor en España (Fundación Canal Isabel II de Madrid, 2017) y Nuevos Relatos Fotográficos (Arts Santa Mónica, 2016).
