Jose Luis Puche (Málaga, 1976). From mythical times of the fatal lagoon of Narcissus to the tactile present of our selfies on Instagram, the mirror has always been a «threshold-phenomenon» (like Umberto Eco names it) that marks the limits between the subjective and the objective.
Breaking the looking glass, shredding the image in which it generates through the reflection, like José Luis Puche (Málaga, 1976) does, means putting the viewer in another space. Decomposing the perspective (the avant-gardes like Cubism and Futurism showed us that) entails evoking different visions and simultaneous alternative narratives. Diluting the objective in the subjective, Puche’s drawings make present the absent. The precise trace of the artist, which lives together with the gesture of a touch almost percussionated (inheritance of his past as a musician), shows a sensuality of the drama that’s morbid and disturbing. At the same time, it deconstructs our perception, forcing us to invigorate —awake— the sight and the intellect.
