Biography

Fiona Banner is a British artist born in 1966, she is a member of the Young British Artists group.

Her work explores the problems and possibilities of written language. She practices sculpture, installations, drawing and writting, which remains always the main subject of Fiona Banner's artistic research.

Recently, she is very interested in classical nudes from the history of art and transcribes the poses of the live models that she observes, in the same field as her earlier work where she trancribed movies.

She was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2002 and one of her sculptures was exhibited at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in 2015. Her work is part of numerous important collections such as the MoMA in New York, the Philadelphia Museum, The Arts Council of England, the Tate Gallery in London and the Walker Art Gallery in Minneapolis.
