Christina Angelina, also known by the pseudonym "Starfighter," is a visual artist, photographer, and gallerist based in Venice, Los Angeles. Born in Santa Monica, California, she grew up in Venice, where the vibrant artistic community fueled her passion for art from an early age. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and pursued further studies in animation at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts as well as in photography at the Art Center College of Design.
Specializing in public art and large-scale figurative murals, Angelina is renowned for her detailed and realistic works, often depicting female figures. Her work explores the duality of strength and vulnerability, capturing raw and fleeting moments of the human condition. She primarily uses aerosol paint, creating striking portraits that enhance urban landscapes.
Her artistic approach is deeply rooted in interaction with local communities. Angelina prioritizes projects in remote locations, seeking to inspire communities with limited exposure to art. She engages in dialogue with residents, incorporating their stories and experiences into her creations, strengthening the connection between the artwork and its environment.
Among her notable collaborations, Angelina has worked with artists such as Ease One, Hueman, and Fin DAC. She has also been commissioned by prestigious brands such as Nike, Nylon Magazine, Microsoft, Heineken, Neiman Marcus, and Christian Louboutin for mural installations and artistic projects. In 2011, she designed the album cover for "Area 52" by Rodrigo y Gabriela and appeared in the music video for "Eyes Like Pearls" by Van Hunt.
One of her most iconic works, Whitney Peak, is a monumental mural created in 2015 on the façade of the Whitney Peak Hotel in Reno, Nevada. This painting, depicting a hooded woman, has become a central visual symbol of the city.
Angelina's originality lies in her ability to merge traditional artistic techniques with contemporary urban art, creating works that deeply resonate with audiences. Her commitment to local communities and her exploration of universal themes of strength and vulnerability set her apart on the contemporary art scene.
