Philippe Vercellotti

Philippe Vercellotti was born in Toulouse in 1961.

He graduated from the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Toulouse in 1985,

he lives and works in Toulouse.

The artist favors acrylic painting and wood supports have his preference.

If the work of the artist has often been compared to that of the masters of trompe l'oeil, the purpose of Philippe Vercellotti escapes the genre.

The term "dreamlike narrative art" would be more appropriate, because the subject matter plays with variations on reminiscence, memory, everyday objects, the everyday...

Over time the visual field will expand, the dimension will open on the window, the landscape; the light becoming one of the principles, one of the characteristics of the writing. The earth is confronted with the ocean; fences, boats, flasks and various cardboard boxes, as well as the puppet Victor, pepper the subject. 

The geometry of the composition plays with lines of escape, numerology, anagrams, and hoaxes, which are guiding forces in the work, elements that draw the viewer's gaze, pushing him or her to the discovery of paths induced by maps that, like portfolios, stimulate adventure and provoke dreams in a coded journey. 

For each work, the choice of the format is preponderant, going from the miniature to the polyptych. The titles of the works reinforce the alchemy of the composition, contribute to the deciphering of the subject, without lifting the veil of the plot.

The conciseness, the precision of the detail, by the given image, play with the constraint fixed by the dimensions of the support. From the escape through a glass door, to the representation of a panoramic view or a simple lemon placed on a shelf, there is no limit to the artist's purpose.
