Biography

Olivié Keck was born in 1989 in Cape Town, where she currently lives and works. In 2011, she graduated from the Michaelis School of Fine Art. Her work depicts, in her own words, "the theater of human life".

Her preoccupation with the themes of contemporary pop culture and domesticity is expressed through a graphic and colorful language and feminine, often symbolic, motifs.

In her teeming universe where flowers, fresh or printed in pattern, structure natural or interior settings, subjects evolve to silhouettes of deep black, which are to be appreciated on the same plane as the other richly detailed elements of the setting.

The artist living in a multi-racial and multicultural environment thus seeks to transcend the notion of "skin color" to arrive at a unique and universal inclusive message. a reflection of her desire to retrace the artistic hybridizations of her country of origin and more broadly the cosmopolitan nature of our globalized society, Olivié combines many techniques: painting (oil and acrylic), drawing, printmaking, ceramics...

Since 2011, she has participated in many personal and collective exhibitions in local and international institutions, as well as in prestigious fairs such as the Cape Town Art Fair. Her works have been exhibited at the Irma Stern Museum and the Zeitz MOCAA, and are included in the permanent collections of the Spier Arts Trust and the University of Cape Town, as well as in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York (Met).

For her second participation in akaa, after the success of the 2025 edition, Olivié produced a new series entitled “deep south" dedicated to South Africa, the country to which she is so attached.
