Biography

Through painting as well as installation, Ako Atikossie probes, in an abstract language, the relationships that are woven between technology, matter, and natural resources. His practice explores the metamorphoses and the unprecedented scenarios drawn by contemporary science.

At the heart of his pictorial research, the sign "less" is alternately a starting point and an endpoint, developed according to constantly renewed orientations, forms, spaces, and geometric dimensions. In physics, this electrical less, the electron, is a key to understanding matter, perpetually in motion. It also speaks of lack, absence, the necessity of revealing what escapes the gaze. Omnipresent in West African cosmogony, where it allows to read the past, the present, and the future of universal matter, this sign permeates all traditional forms in Togo, from architecture to ritual representations.

Geometric abstractions, undulations, kinetic games: Atikossie's compositions invite us to think about the links between the constituent elements of space and earth, and the shockwave of scientific research on social and political life. His work questions, above all, the intimate complicity that unites technique and quantum science.
