Biography

CHRIS DERUBEIS (1970 - ): Chris DeRubeis is an American contemporary artist known for developing a distinctive style he calls “metal art," combining techniques from painting, metalworking, and automotive finishing to create richly colored, highly reflective compositions. Initially interested in automotive design and custom paintwork, DeRubeis developed methods for applying specialized paints and finishes to metal surfaces, producing artworks with a sculptural appearance and a sense of depth. His pieces often feature abstract patterns, flowing organic forms, geometric shapes, and vivid metallic colors that shift in appearance as the viewer moves around them. Working primarily on aluminum and other metal surfaces, he uses layering, airbrushing, polishing, and chemical treatments to achieve effects that resemble liquid metal, polished stone, or iridescent glass. DeRubeis has exhibited his work internationally and gained a following among collectors drawn to the combination of technical innovation, modern abstraction, and luminous surface effects. His work occupies a distinctive position between traditional fine art and contemporary decorative metal art.
