French Village Street View with Fountain, Circa 1960

Alfred Salvignol

A mid-century French Village Street scene in pastel on Paper by French artist Alfred Salvignol. Signed bottom right and titled "Mollans", a French village on the Swiss/German border.

A scene with bold, energetic strokes and a vivid color palette. The composition features a village square with distinct architectural elements, including multi-storied houses painted in varied hues of yellow, red, and green. A central statue or monument anchors the foreground, adding depth and focus. The artist employs a loose, sketch-like style, with expressive lines that convey movement and liveliness. The sky, brushed in blue tones, enhances the sense of depth, while the indistinct figure and street elements suggest bustling village life. This piece stands out through its masterful use of color contrast and perspective, creating a compelling sense of place and atmosphere, inviting viewers to explore the village's dynamic energy.
