Rio de Janeiro. Antigo 363 from the series Brasilia, 2021

Sergey Pietilä

A haunting atmosphere dominates this composition. Dark tones envelop the scene. A twisted, skeletal tree emerges from the shadows. Its limbs stretch like frozen veins across a weathered stone wall. The organic form contrasts with the rigid geometry of the architecture. A heavy iron gate stands closed to the right. Faded graffiti marks the lower panel. The surface suggests decay and memory. Light filters through a singular opening above. It reveals a ghostly glimpse of foliage. This contrast creates a profound sense of isolation. The palette remains muted. Deep blues and greys anchor the visual weight. Subtle highlights define the texture of the masonry. Every brushstroke emphasizes a mood of quiet melancholy. The artwork explores the tension between nature and human construction. It captures a moment of stillness in a forgotten place. The composition draws the eye from the chaotic roots to the silent void of the sky. Precise detailing brings the rough stone to life.
