Description
The line becomes light. Almost spontaneous. Two silhouettes face each other in a gesture of tenderness. The wash of watercolor defines the volumes. A deep blue emphasizes the dress and the hair. Black brings a sharp contrast.
The collage invites itself into the composition. Fragments of paper come to dress the faces. This play of textures erases the features to make way for the essential. Intimacy prevails over the portrait.
The approach is within an impressionist tradition. The softness of the hues dialogues with the roughness of the outline. A subtle balance between precision and abstraction. The gaze glides over the fluid forms.
The expression is immediate. It captures a moment of complicity. At the bottom of the sheet, calligraphed letters anchor the scene. The whole rests on a neutral background which accentuates the luminosity of the pigments. The paper retains its natural texture.
Presentation
An English teacher by profession, Paris-based Isabelle Hirtzig began her career as an artist through the medium of watercolor. Through her light touch of the paintbrush, she is able to capture much emotive feeling. Her work depicts scenes based on subjects as diverse as flowers, Parisian scenes, landscapes, animals and portraiture. Her focus remains on the psyche and art—its sensuality and softness are perfectly accentuated through the watercolor medium.
