Description
The work forms part of the series 'City Limits', which revolves around cities in moments of crisis. Works are based on historical images. Through alienation of these images and the use of additional layers and elements, the works aim to reach beyond the moments captured in the original photos. 'From the Ashes' is based on several photographs taken in Gaza City during the wars and conflicts of the last decades. Stretched on a wood frame and gallery wrapped. No framing needed, you will receive it "ready to hang", with eye hooks and rope on the back. Certificate of Authenticity included. Ships in secure wooden crate. Images in context may not be to scale and are for display purposes only.
Presentation
Working primarily with oil and acrylic, J. Kesin creates paintings of his perception of different subjects. These range from autobiography, literature, general concepts, politics and current affairs.
The subjects of his paintings are often deconstructed into "components", which are then represented on the canvas by layers, playing and creating a play of shapes, lines, opacity and transparency. Analysis, emotion and spontaneity combine in a process of constant conversation with the evolving painting.
His artistic influences include the ideas of simultaneity, cubism and constructivism, as well as the associative abstraction of Gerhard Richter and Howard Hodgkin.
Kesin was born in Hamburg, Germany, where he lived until 1999. During the 1990s he also spent extended periods in Russia and Uzbekistan, following the breakup of the Soviet Union, which added to his experiences and inspirations.
He is now based in London and Valencia.
