Village sous la neige, 1936

E. Perrenoud-Monnier

Original frame, cracked paint.

This captivating work of art, depicting a winter landscape, is distinguished by its attention to detail and balanced composition. The scene, enveloped in an atmosphere of calm and serenity, transports us to a mountainous region where snow delicately covers the landscape. In the foreground, a sturdy house sports a snow-covered roof, blending perfectly into its surroundings. The walls of the dwelling are painted in a shade that recalls natural colors, thus allowing a visual harmony with the snow-covered landscape. The chimneys, standing proudly, contrast slightly, adding a touch of extra dimension to the structure. In the background, a valley extends, gently hidden by a light winter mist that softens the contours of the landscape. The mountains on the horizon are outlined in shadow, creating a depth that attracts the eye and encourages immersion in this tranquil scene. The colour palette is dominated by shades of grey, white and pale blue, giving the work a calming and contemplative atmosphere. The trees, bare in this season, add a touch of delicacy to the composition. Their bare branches follow the lines of the landscape, reinforcing the cohesion of the whole. A technical mastery is perceived in the way the textures of the snow and walls are rendered, testifying to the artist's talent for capturing the very essence of winter. This work is distinguished by its ability to evoke a deep emotion of nostalgia and tranquility, while inviting the viewer to appreciate the simple and timeless beauty of a winter landscape. It is a celebration of nature in its purest form, where each element contributes to a visual and emotional harmony.
