Description
AAA3759
The oil painting on cardboard, titled "Summer Day in the City", captures the contrast between urban architecture and the natural elements that soften its rigid structures. The artist employs thick, expressive brushstrokes and a textured impasto technique to bring depth and energy to the scene, making the viewer feel the heat and atmosphere of a typical summer day in a residential neighborhood. The composition is dominated by towering apartment buildings, painted in muted shades of purple, pink, and gray. Their facades, rendered with thick, rough strokes, appear weathered, emphasizing the age and character of the structures. The perspective draws the eye toward the center of the painting, where the buildings recede into the distance, creating a sense of depth and enclosure. Despite their massiveness, the warm tones of sunlight reflecting off the surfaces add a touch of life to the concrete structures. In contrast, the foreground is filled with vibrant greens and earthy browns, depicting patches of grass, trees, and small bushes that bring a sense of freshness to the urban environment. The greenery, painted with rich and dynamic strokes, appears to thrive despite the dominance of concrete, suggesting the resilience of nature within the cityscape. A winding pathway, rendered in ochre and beige tones, leads through the scene, inviting the viewer to imagine walking through this familiar space. The sky above is a blend of warm yellows and blues, with swirling clouds that seem to capture the movement of a breezy summer day. The bright, diffused light filtering through the clouds enhances the impression of heat, casting soft shadows on the ground and buildings.Through "Summer Day in the City", the artist conveys a sense of nostalgia and familiarity, reflecting on the quiet beauty of everyday urban life. The painting highlights the coexistence of nature and human-made structures, showing how greenery can bring life to even the most industrial of landscapes. It evokes the sensation of a warm afternoon, where the sun beats down on the pavement, children play in shaded courtyards, and the hum of city life continues in the background. The painting invites the viewer to appreciate the ordinary—those overlooked corners of the city where nature and architecture merge to create a unique and harmonious environment.
Presentation
Born in 1960 in Konotop, Sumy Region, Ukraine.
1984 - Graduated from Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School (Department of Art and Graphics).
Worked as a drawing and drafting teacher, painting and wood carving instructor, artist-designer.
Held the position of Chief Artist in Konotop.
Since 2000 - Independent artist.
Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
Works by Boris Serdyuk are held in museums in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, European countries, the USA, Israel, and other countries.
In 2018, the artist entered the global art space of the creative platform in New York, where seven of his works were included in the catalog "Painting & Graphics."
Currently lives and works in Kremenchuk, Poltava Region.
Took his first steps in the world of visual arts within the walls of his local school, then studied at Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School. After graduation, he returned to his homeland and started working as a drawing and painting teacher.
Later, he realized that for an artist, creative freedom is essential. Thus, after seventeen years of teaching, he left the profession to focus on his creative work. The artist is content to have the opportunity to engage in his beloved craft, which he considers the meaning of his life.
His journey had its ups and downs, victories in competitions, and recognition from admirers, yet he never ceased his determined quest for his artistic path. In ancient times, "serdyuk" referred to professional infantrymen in the Cossack ranks. This heritage likely passed down not only the surname but also many Cossack traits to the artist, including hard work, modesty, and human dignity.
Boris Serdyuk creates in genres such as portrait, landscape, and thematic composition. His works are varied, reflecting the artist's impressions of the places he visited. Among them are picturesque corners of Kremenchuk and Dnipro views, urban and maritime landscapes, the grandeur of the Carpathian Mountains, and cozy Ukrainian villages. His canvases are intriguing in terms of color and relatively compositionally perfect, revealing the life of nature at the time of their execution.
There are also commissioned portraits and paintings, such as "Shevchenko in Baturyn." He spent over a year working on it, studying the architecture of the former hetman capital. However, the artist prefers to work swiftly, capturing the vision of a painting before it fades from his mind and before the sun changes its angle and shadows. On average, according to the artist, he spends about 40 minutes on a single landscape.
Boris successfully combines a poetic perception of the world and a deep understanding of nature with brilliant artistic execution. His paintings exude a special light and a delicate sense of nature – vivid colors on the canvas resonate with intermediate tones. The artist has abandoned contours, replacing them with separate and contrasting brushstrokes; his paintings amaze with colors, not only their diversity but also the amount of substance applied to the canvas – vibrant, vivid, voluminous.
Describing the master's works is a challenging task. Boris Serdyuk's works are special – they are painted with soul. One must see and feel the wonderful harmony of nature on the artist's canvases firsthand and touch the great mystery of Art.
