Description
This work skillfully blends Mexican iconography and modern pop art. At the center, Frida Kahlo's iconic female figure, serenely seated, seems to dominate the composition with an imposing presence. Her silhouette is surrounded by visually rich floral and ornamental motifs, creating a striking contrast with contemporary graphic elements. The vibrant colors—blue, gold, and purple—intertwine, providing dynamic depth to the complex background. The embedded text suggests social or economic critique, adding a layer of reflection to the visual. The repeated patterns in the background evoke traditional textile culture, enriching the dialogue between old and new. The artist aimed to create a work that would have evolved like a collage on a wall. She rusted the plates to achieve this remarkable result.
Presentation
OJA is a multidisciplinary artist with a professional background in publishing, advertising and communications.
A graphic designer for over 20 years, OJA decided to create her identity as a street artist after a trip to Lisbon where she discovered the art of azulejo ceramics.
His first collages were visible in the streets of Paris from 2020.
Passionate about pop culture and influenced by pop art, she incorporates strong symbols and messages into the ornamentation of her creations. She creates portraits of iconic figures, sometimes desecrated by society, sanctified in the form of ex-votos.
In 2022, she created and produced her first solo exhibition
“ART POP CELEBRATION,” to celebrate the transition from his work as a poster-collagist to that of a stencil artist.
