Original painting
This artwork vividly portrays an aging house situated in a serene landscape, exuding nostalgic charm. The structure showcases a mix of weathered textures, with patches of peeling paint in muted yellows and blues, suggesting a history rich with stories. Its dark, sloping roof contrasts starkly against the aged facade, highlighting the house's unique character. The windows, varied in style and age, enhance the sense of rustic allure and mystery. Beside the house, a tall, windswept tree adds a natural elegance, its leaves depicted with delicate attention to detail, casting subtle shadows. The foreground features a rich tapestry of grass, adding depth and grounding the scene in reality. This composition invites viewers to ponder the passage of time and the beauty found in weathered simplicity, making it a compelling study of resilience in both nature and architecture.
Presentation
Ilona Shymchyts is an artist originally from the village of Mushkativka in the Borshchiv region. She received her education at the Lviv National Academy of Arts. Her works have been exhibited in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Borshchiv, and the L. Levytskyi Museum in Burdiakivtsi, as well as abroad - in Toronto (Canada), Poznań, and Toruń (Poland). The artist’s works are held in private collections in Ukraine and beyond, including the United States, Poland, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and the Czech Republic. In her paintings, Shymchyts often combines realistic attention to detail with a soft decorative quality and a restrained color palette. Her works reveal a tendency to create quiet, meditative landscapes in which rural architecture conveys a sense of calm and a connection to her native land.
