Oil painting Yellow Sunset Over the City Tatyana Derdey captures a dramatic urban skyline illuminated by the last warm light of the setting sun. The artist skillfully contrasts the glowing yellow horizon with the heavy, expressive clouds above, creating a powerful atmospheric effect. Through confident brushwork and carefully layered oil textures, Derdey conveys both the depth of the sky and the distant silhouette of the city. The composition demonstrates the painter's mastery in balancing light and shadow. Subtle reflections of warm sunset tones break through the cool gray and blue clouds, while the cityscape below appears as a delicate rhythm of architectural forms and rooftops. The soft yet energetic brushstrokes add movement and emotion to the scene. With refined color harmony and strong painterly technique, Tatyana Derdey transforms an ordinary sunset into a striking city landscape that highlights her exceptional sensitivity to atmosphere, light, and urban space.
Presentation
For this artist, painting is a way of preserving the beauty of nature exactly as she feels it. She works in the academic style because it allows her to stay true to the landscape — to its light, mood, harmony, and quiet perfection. Her goal is not to change nature, but to capture it with sincerity and care.
“I work in the academic manner because this is how I see and feel the landscape. I am drawn to revealing the beauty of nature as it truly exists, without altering it, because it is already perfect in its own way. My goal is to bring the image as close as possible to reality and to preserve the authenticity of what I see.
From childhood, I was surrounded by landscape painters who worked in the academic tradition. I also grew up in a place of remarkable natural beauty, where I never felt the need to change anything — only to capture and convey it. This shaped both my perception of the world and my artistic path.
I believe there have always been, and always will be, artists who seek new and experimental forms, as well as those who strive to reflect nature truthfully and objectively. I see myself as one of the latter.”
