Description

This diptych explores the tension between structure and void. The surfaces glow with an earthy, metallic radiance. Warm ochre and deep bronze tones dominate the composition. Sharp, angular lines cut across the space. These geometric fractures create a complex architectural map.
A solitary human figure emerges from the golden haze. The form is silhouetted and contemplative. It stands as a witness to the surrounding chaos. The artist balances precise linearity with organic textures. Subtle patterns and dotted motifs add rhythmic depth.
The visual language evokes a sense of displacement. It mirrors the atmospheric quality found in the creator's larger installations. Each painting functions as a fragmented landscape. The interplay of light and shadow suggests an ancient, weathered parchment. This artwork captures a timeless dialogue between the human spirit and abstract geometry. The composition is anchored by a rich, tactile application of paint.

Capelán's work stands out for its rigorous handling of diverse artistic techniques and procedures, ranging from drawing to installation, including painting, printmaking, photography, and the manipulation of objects. The variety of expressive resources is matched by the multiplicity of interpretations his work evokes in the viewer. Capelán is a nomadic artist who transcends the boundaries of artistic languages as a way of questioning and crossing other boundaries: the political, economic, and cultural ones that compartmentalize our worldview. Carlos Capelán develops an artistic production with an anthropological bent and a great sensitivity to contemporary issues—related to the political, the social, and the territorial—working in diverse techniques and formats—painting, drawing, printmaking, objects, performances, photography, installations—transforming his artworks into "habitats" characterized by cultural hybridization and synthesis.
