Description
This geometric composition explores the tension between abstraction and myth. The artist employs a sophisticated visual language to bridge the gap between figurative memory and pure form. Cool blue and grey tones dominate the background, creating an ethereal atmosphere. Sharp lines intersect with fluid curves. These elements suggest architectural ruins or fragmented landscapes.
A sudden burst of deep red disrupts the muted palette. This central organic shape acts as a powerful emotive anchor. It draws the eye into a dialogue of contrast and energy. The application of oil paint is precise yet expressive. Heavy impasto adds a physical dimension to the surface. Subtle hints of a gaze emerge from the lower right, adding a human quality to the abstract arrangement.
Created in 2001, this artwork reflects a deep engagement with symbolism. The artist utilizes metaphor to evoke ancient narratives without relying on literal representation. Every brushstroke serves a structural purpose. The result is a contemplative space where cultural history meets modern formal experimentation. The piece remains a testament to the ability of non-figurative art to convey complex emotional states through color and geometry.
Presentation
Gia Khutsishvili was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, on July 18, 1966, into a family of artists. He graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts in 1989. Since 1990, Khutsishvili has been engaged in academic and pedagogical activities at the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts, where he has taught and contributed to the institution's educational programs. He has also taught painting and delivered lectures at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Over the course of more than three decades, Khutsishvili has developed a sustained artistic practice alongside his academic, research, and cultural activities. He has participated in and contributed to numerous exhibition projects and cultural events and has been involved in the preparation of publications, books, and art albums. His professional activities also include research and translation. Khutsishvili occupies a distinctive position within the generation of Georgian artists that emerged in the 1990s. His practice is characterized by a sustained engagement with abstraction, symbolism, and metaphor, with mythological themes and imagery constituting an important component of his artistic vocabulary. Through these elements, his work explores questions of perception, interpretation, and the relationship between figurative references and abstract forms. Metaphor plays a fundamental role in Khutsishvili's artistic approach, functioning as a structural principle through which images, symbols, and meanings are brought into dialogue. His works reflect a consistent interest in developing an individual visual language grounded in abstraction while remaining connected to cultural, historical, and mythological references. Khutsishvili's works are held in museum collections and private collections in Georgia and internationally.
