Description

A serene face rests beneath a crown of blue flowers. This intimate oil artwork turns a quiet human portrait into a poetic reflection on memory, absence, and the invisible connections that remain after someone is no longer physically close. The figure appears with closed eyes and a peaceful expression, surrounded by a dense halo of blue forget-me-not blossoms. Their petals shift from cobalt and ultramarine to powder blue and soft gray-blue, while tiny yellow accents and deep green leaves bring delicate flashes of life to the brilliant azure background.

The floral crown is more than decoration. Forget-me-not flowers become a symbol of enduring remembrance—a fragile living presence that holds emotional connection across time and distance. The softly modeled face contrasts with the richly worked botanical details, creating a balance between stillness and abundance. Pale skin, muted rose, plum, and gray shadows give the portrait an almost dreamlike calm, while the intense blue field makes the entire composition feel luminous and immersive.

Created in oil on canvas, this original contemporary portrait is especially suited to collectors searching for blue floral portrait art, forget-me-not flower artwork, symbolic art about memory, contemporary botanical portraiture, emotional figurative art, or meaningful blue wall art for a modern interior. It can bring a contemplative focal point to a bedroom, living room, reading space, home office, or quiet personal interior. Ready to hang, it also makes a deeply thoughtful art gift for someone who values flowers, remembrance, emotional symbolism, or artwork that speaks softly and stays in the mind long after the first glance.

Nat Derevyanko, Forget-me-not | Blue Floral Portrait Artwork
Italy  • 1976

Presentation

Nat Derevyanko is a Ukrainian visual artist based in Avezzano, Italy. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including a solo exhibition at Distinction Gallery in Escondido, California, and projects in Italy, Ukraine, and the United States. Her biography is included in the Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine. Derevyanko is a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine and the Union of Designers of Ukraine.

She studied Graphic Design at the Ivan Trush Lviv College of Decorative and Applied Arts and Sacred Art at the Lviv National Academy of Arts. She has worked as a visual artist since 2001 and is a Professor of Design at Khortytsia National Academy in Zaporizhzhia.

Working as a narrative symbolist, Nat explores displacement, vulnerability, belonging, memory, and the loss of home. Her visual language draws on the symbolic structures of sacred art while moving them into psychologically charged contemporary narratives.

Childhood is a recurring lens in her paintings: innocence and imagination coexist with anxiety, early fears, and emotional wounds that persist into adult life. Following the war in Ukraine and her displacement to Italy, the idea of home gained new urgency in her practice. Through symbolic and imaginative imagery, Nat Derevyanko considers how personal memory intersects with collective experience and how vulnerability can become a space for resilience and transformation.
