Description
Oil on cardboard
This oil painting captures a landscape filtered through a lens of memory and emotion. High-energy brushstrokes define the scene. Earthy tones blend with vivid greens to evoke a sun-drenched countryside. The composition feels fluid. It suggests a movement through space and time. Vertical accents of deep blue and green stand like sentinels against a soft horizon. The artist employs a thick application of paint to create tactile depth. His approach prioritizes sensation over strict representation. This artwork reflects a dialogue between inherited tradition and modern abstraction. The colors vibrate with an internal light. Pale yellows dance across the foreground. They meet the coolness of a distant, hazy blue range. The sky remains open and light. Every stroke reveals a process of constant experimentation. The image oscillates between a recognizable place and a purely imaginative space. A solitary dark form anchors the left side of the canvas. It guides the eye toward the sprawling meadows. These rolling hills melt into a series of rhythmic, expressive marks. The scene concludes with a delicate balance of organic shapes and spontaneous textures.
Presentation
Ilia Menabde is a Georgian painter born in 2003 who lives and works in Tbilisi, Georgia. His practice explores the relationship between memory, time, place, and contemporary experience. He graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts in 2026 and currently works from a temporary studio in Tbilisi. Working primarily with oil on canvas, Menabde approaches painting as an evolving process of experimentation. His practice draws upon diverse historical periods, visual references, and the environments that surround him, which he reinterprets through a personal and contemporary language. Rather than adhering to a single stylistic approach, he continuously explores new techniques, compositions, textures, and ways of constructing the painted image. Menabde’s work reflects the perspective of a young artist navigating the tension between inherited artistic traditions and the rapidly changing visual culture of the present. His paintings combine observation, imagination, and experimentation, creating spaces in which different temporal and emotional references can coexist. He has participated in several group exhibitions in Tbilisi, and his works are held in private collections.
