Cabourg is a seaside resort on the Normandy coast. The Grand Hotel was Marcel Proust's favorite place for holidays (1871-1922). In In the Shadow of Young Blossoming Girls, he describes the view the narrator has from his room. For his birthday, Odile Raoul was invited to this same hotel, where she was able to visit the room of her dear novelist.

The space opens here like a window onto a serene horizon. The gaze passes through a black and rigorous frame to discover a streamlined landscape. The deep blue of the sky dialogues with the lighter shades of the water. Wide white bands suggest stylized clouds.

The composition rests on a strict geometric balance. The sand, treated in warm ochres, anchors the scene in sunlight. The forms are sharp. The blocks of color interlock without abrupt transition.
