Description
A solitary silhouette fades into a whirlwind of colors. The face disappears under an explosion of stylized leaves. This vegetal abundance evokes deep introspection. The character seems to blend into nature to better protect themselves.
The technique mixes acrylic painting, watercolor, and collage. This mix creates a subtle relief and tactile richness. The contrast is marked between the dark background and the clarity of the clothing.
The gaze is drawn to the shades of pink, green, and blue that swirl around the head. Each paper fragment brings graphic precision. The composition plays on the balance between emptiness and fullness.
This 2019 creation explores the boundary between the visible and the hidden. It establishes an atmosphere of gentle melancholy. The upright posture and detailed shoes anchor the scene in everyday life.
The work on materials emphasizes the fragility of human presence. The whole exudes a contemplative serenity. The composition ends with a play of colored dots floating in the darkness.
Presentation
Cécile Duchêne-Malissin is a resolutely figurative painter: her canvases depict isolated characters, borrowed from a certain melancholy, seemingly immersed in deep introspection. The world of childhood is particularly represented, and offers itself to the dreamlike sensibility of each one, causing a certain nostalgia.
Her painting can not be labeled as it is unique: by themes, composition, but also technique, mixing acrylic paint, ink, paper and canvas. The characters of the canvases unfold as much as they hide: behind masks, vegetation. They present themselves to the spectator, abandoned to the gaze, and yet all in restraint. But is it the spectator who observes the character, or the opposite?
