The Quiet Grove, 2026

Kateryna Kolesnykova

A group of trees stands among sunlit grasses, their dark, twisting branches forming an intricate pattern against the softer colours of the surrounding landscape. Deep greens and cool blue tones contrast with warm ochres, yellows, and earthy pinks, capturing the interplay of light, vegetation, and shade.
Unlike a panoramic landscape, this painting offers a more intimate perspective. The viewer is placed within the natural environment, surrounded by trees and grasses, where attention shifts from the distant horizon to the shapes and textures of the vegetation nearby.
Part of the Notes on the Landscape series, inspired by scientific fieldwork and observations of natural environments, the painting reflects the artist's interest in the structure and diversity of plant communities. The expressive brushwork emphasizes the individual character of the trees, their irregular growth, and the relationship between different layers of vegetation.
Rather than presenting nature as an idealized scene, Among the Trees preserves the impression of a particular moment of observation - a quiet encounter with a familiar landscape, where ordinary details become worthy of attention.
