Description
A solitary female figure commands the composition. Her gaze is direct and piercing. Long, fiery red hair frames a pale, haunting face. The expression remains enigmatic. A dark navy garment anchors the lower half of the canvas. Broad, expressive brushstrokes create a sense of raw energy. The application of pigment is thick and tactile. The background dissolves into an abstract forest of ochre and deep sienna. Vertical streaks suggest towering trees. Patches of acidic green ground the scene in a natural setting. Warm tones clash with the cool shadows of the clothing. This creates a striking chromatic tension. The artist avoids precise detail in favor of emotional intensity. Every stroke conveys a mood of quiet introspection. Light falls softly across the forehead and cheeks. The composition balances structural rigidity with painterly freedom. The application of color defines the depth of the space. Small touches of white highlight the eyes and lips. The artwork captures a moment of stillness amidst a turbulent visual environment. Its strength lies in the fusion of figurative representation and bold abstraction. Focus settles on the contrast between the vivid hair and the muted landscape.
Presentation
Luigi Iona was born in 1990 in Aprilia (LT) and from twelve years he lived in Florence.
"I have always drawn since I was a child.
Around the age of eighteen, I began to approach painting (tempera, acrylic, oil).
After middle school I attended the Art Institute of Pomezia for five years, Advertising Graphics section. After finishing high school I decided to enroll at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome.
After about a year and a half, however, I decided to stop.
The reason that pushed me was the need to "detach myself" from the environment in which I was born and raised, eager to start again in a place that was unfamiliar to me.
I chose Florence because I have always been fascinated by its entire history of art.
In Florence, I did not continue my studies at the Academy, because I considered my drawing/painting skills well enough to be carried on by myself.
From that moment on I have never stopped making paintings, each time seeking more clarity and stability in the form/sign/color, in search of my poetics.
My style cannot exactly be attributed to an artistic movement, but certainly, my most relevant influences are expressionism, abstract expressionism, and contemporary figurative art.
At the moment I am rather focused on the everyday, trying to pictorially convey what we see and perceive every day in the form of internal poetry.
I try to make visible the intensity and harmony that lies in common everyday things and situations, for each of us.
Many times we take for granted a corner of the house, or a tree in the middle of the street, or a well-defined shadow on a wall that we see every day.
But even the smile of someone in our life can go unnoticed.
Here, my paintings are made to remember the beauty of things/people in everyday life, avoiding archiving what we practically have before our eyes every day.
By avoiding avoiding life."
