Description
This composition captures a suspended moment, like a still from a film. The artist explores here the boundary between fiction and personal narrative. The eye is first drawn to the deep azure of the basin. Its smooth surface reflects the light with an almost photographic precision.
The spatial arrangement creates a calm tension. A row of white sun loungers awaits on the edge, aligned with rigor. Behind them, palm trees rise towards a building with geometric lines. A block of bright red color breaks the neutrality of the ochre and beige tones of the wall.
The technique is rich and complex. The artist superimposes oil, acrylic, and resin on the canvas. This mixture brings the textures closer and accentuates the shine of the water. The whole evokes the motionless atmosphere of holiday places, where time seems to stop.
The influence of travel marks this creation. It translates a feeling of elsewhere and a urgency to live. The tight framing and the play of perspectives reinforce the immersion in this architectural setting. The zenithal light highlights every detail, from the fence bars to the curves of the metal staircase.
Presentation
Ayline Olukman was born in 1981 in Strasbourg. She studied at the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg, where she showed her first serigraphs. She graduated in 2005.
Her first explorations revolve around the juxtaposition of visuals. Based on the photograph, she diverted the initial medium using collage, assembling images and color blocks.
The notion of movement is really current in Ayline's work, she captures moments like they were coming out from a movie. Since 2006, Ayline find her inspiration in travel, She lived 6 mouths at Vancouver BC, 3 in San Francisco, she went to many countries all aver the world (Japan, china, argentina, USA, canada, thailand, cambodia, sri lanka) This permanent call of elsewhere pushes her in the emergency of living, her pictures mixing this feeling of fiction and autobiography.
