Description
A large dark sailboat dominates this maritime composition. The ship rests in a narrow canal, framed by urban facades in ochre tones. The light of a solitary lamppost pierces the gloom and reflects precisely on the water's surface.
The line is controlled, guiding the gaze towards the verticality of the masts and the complex network of the rigging. The atmosphere evokes the calm of a port at dawn or dusk. The grayish sky brings a melancholic dimension to this port scene.
The artist draws inspiration from their deep attachment to the marine world. This work testifies to a rigorous self-taught approach and a keen sense of observation. The composition plays on the contrast between the imposing mass of the black wood and the diffuse clarity of the public lighting.
The chromatic rendering favors sober shades, reinforcing the timeless aspect of the scene. The visual balance rests on the tension between the rigid architectural lines and the organic curve of the hull. The author's signature appears discreetly in the bottom right.
