Ocean Eyes, 2025

Adewale Adeyemi

Ocean Eyes is a painting about being yourself - fully, honestly, and proudly. At the center are two calm, ocean-colored eyes, looking through leaves, flowers, and butterflies.
Nature surrounds her. Everything is bright and beautiful. But she, too, is beauty - even if she hides behind the colors In this piece, I use nature (The flowers and butterflies) not just as decoration but as dialogue, representing the outside pressures -people's opinions, comparisons, and challenges that sometimes make us hide who we really are or feel like we're not enough.
The eyes in Ocean Eyes do not demand attention, yet they hold it. They speak softly but say everything:
"I am here. I see. I am beautiful."
As an artist, I believe beauty is our power. And that power lies in being fully ourselves, not shaped by imitation or fear, but by our inner truth. Too often, we hide behind the world's idea of beauty, letting flowers and butterflies (the acceptable forms ) take our place. This work challenges that. It urges the viewer not to hide, not to blend in, but to show up fully - because the world needs your kind of beauty, not another copy of someone else's.
Ocean Eyes is not just a painting. It is a mirror. A reminder.
Be proud of who you are. Don't dim your light. Let the world see you.
