Description
This abstract artwork masterfully manipulates color and form to create a visually arresting composition. The piece employs a striking palette of primary hues, dominated by a vibrant red in the upper portion and a deep, rich blue in the lower section. These bold colors frame a central expanse of white, which creates a dramatic contrast and draws the viewer’s eye toward the center of the canvas. The red area exudes a sense of dynamism and energy, its edges appearing soft and somewhat organic, as though the color is dissipating into the surrounding space. This effect imbues the painting with a sense of movement and fluidity, suggesting a natural, almost ethereal transition from the intense crimson to the pristine white. In the lower segment, the blue extends upwards with a vigorous application, creating a sense of depth and grounding the composition. The blue tones convey a tranquil yet profound presence, balancing the fervor of the red above. There is a noticeable textural variation in this section, where the pigment appears denser and more tactile, inviting closer inspection. The interplay between the colors and the negative space in this artwork is particularly compelling. The white central area is not merely a void; it acts as a breathing space within the composition, emphasizing the surrounding colors and their vibrant interaction. This strategic use of white heightens the impact of the red and blue, making them appear even more vivid and dynamic. Overall, this artwork captivates with its simplicity and sophistication. The use of vibrant color, the careful balance between movement and stillness, and the thoughtful distribution of space all contribute to a piece that is both powerful and contemplative. It challenges the viewer to consider the relationship between color and form, inviting a prolonged and introspective engagement.
Presentation
My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.
Statement
Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.
My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
