Description
Giuseppe Cali (1846-1930)
A prolific Maltese painter (between 600 and 2,000 works according to various sources), known for his speed of execution. He also had eleven children.
The Death of the Great Pastry Chef 2024 (1867) –
Oil, flour and pastry cream.
The renowned pastry chef, once known as the king of the piping bag, has just learned that he has won the IWCCD (International Wedding Cake Contest in Dubai). Overwhelmed with emotion, he collapses. A more martial version is on display at MUZA in Valletta.
Presentation
The digital brush and the bold pixel are Olivier Dupont Delestraint's tools for transforming the paintings he photographs during his travels. He then writes the true story of fake paintings created, in their time, by real artists. He teases our fetishistic relationship with masterpieces, challenges the power of the label; he plays on a very contemporary question: what constitutes authority?
