Description
On the back: signed and printed by the artist. Print dated 9/09; with portfolio.
In his black-and-white photographs, Richard Kalvar captures a silent geometry in which light becomes the sculptor. The intense contrast between the illuminated areas and those plunged into shadow suggests a solar presence. Light draws, cuts out, and brings out the textures of everyday life. With tight framing and bold perspectives, guided by his keen visual acuity, Richard Kalvar shifts our gaze toward ordinary spaces and objects.
Presentation
“Life is a farce, the skill is in showing it,” claims the American photographer Richard KALVAR. He creates images that are a bit absurd, comical, often strange, of unknown passers-by in the street. Member of the VU agency he created the Viva agency with other photographers like Martine Franck, Hervé Gloaguen, Claude Raymond Dityvon. Member of Magnum since 1972, he has long been it’s President.
