Description
A pair of pink babies, hand-molded in faience, with their strap and buckle. Small ladybugs, enhanced with luster, have settled on the vamp. In place of the toe, a wick: the shoe becomes a candlestick. It is no longer worn, one places a candle on it.
The piece belongs to , my series of everyday objects recreated in ceramic. Each object is numbered, as in a register, and each changes function: here, it becomes .
Unique piece, shaped, enameled, and lustered by hand in my workshop in Dordogne.
Artist's statement
I inventory the objects of desire.
As a child, I dreamed of shoes: those of my dolls, those of Barbie, the red shoe in the display case in . I quickly attach myself to objects. Today, I mold shoes in faience that I would have wanted to own, and this gesture makes me pass the desire to buy them.
The faience shoe is a somewhat absurd object: fragile where it should be solid, immobile where it should walk. This silliness pleases me. By removing its function, I keep only what it says about us: desire, attachment, memory.
My faith also runs through this work, through the question of our attachment to material things. My ceramics are not objects to be used. They are vestiges of our desires, arranged and numbered.
Enameled faience, luster · The pair · L. 22 × H. 6 cm each (excluding wick)
Presentation
In the silence of my paintings resides a language: that of inner peace.
Each work becomes a personal journey, an intimate voyage, an inner exploration in which my paintings and ceramic pieces evolve and reveal themselves as I immerse myself in them. Each brushstroke, each gesture in the material, in the clay, is for me a quest for recentering, an attempt to transcend the superficiality of the world to reach a form of emotional truth.
Painting, modeling, shaping become slow, almost meditative acts. A detached vision emerges: a silent contemplation of immediate events, of what touches the soul, often in unexpected ways. My works aspire to embody this inner peace, to become gentle and melancholic windows opening onto a space of reflection, where serenity mingles with beauty.
My paintings and ceramic objects, like sensitive thresholds, invite contemplation that transcends the daily tumult. Like inner peace itself, my creations do not seek stillness: they carry a dynamic, a constant search, a renewed attention to oneself. Not in a selfish withdrawal, but in a generosity of offered emotions, captured in color, texture, clay, and glaze.
I would like my works to radiate a simple peace, to evoke a deep resonance in the hearts of those who look at them, like a discreet, intimate echo.
What if, ultimately, painting and shaping became my prayer?
Born in Colombes, Natacha Birds is a French artist. After secondary school, she attended the Auguste Renoir school in Paris, where she studied applied arts and earned a degree in web design. After several years working as a web designer, she returned to painting and has devoted herself fully to her artistic practice since 2019, and to ceramics since 2024.
Today, his work is expressed through painting and ceramics, in a sensitive exploration of light, silence, prayer and spirituality, where each work becomes a space for contemplation.
