Naphta Tribes

Maastricht From June 23, 2023 to July 30, 2023

Presentation
Naphta Tribes is the first Solo exhibition by Fab Redeti at PontArte in Maastricht. The photographs of Redeti are full of humor, but on the other hand show the emptiness of consumption, the use of plastics and the ecological damage we cause to the planet.

Inspired by Edward Curtis as he immortalized Native Americans, Fab Rideti photographs the last representatives of our civilization, the "founders" of the 7th continent **, before ecological consciousness makes these portraits no longer conceivable.

The series highlights consumerism and emptiness behind appearance. Like ridiculous warriors, the characters adorn themselves with plastic, a material they claim to be noble although it is causing their downfall.

To get our full attention, Rideti chose humor over guilt. She portrays our vanity and blindness with tenderness.
She emphasizes the emptiness of consumption, when nature urges us to return to authenticity.

With a plastic, even aesthetic approach, Fab Rideti produces engaged works of art, impregnated by the great contemporary questions, scrutinizing human fragility as much as the flaws of our societies.

Within her work, the themes of play, representation and spectacle are recurrent. She draws us into her theatrical, fantastic universe, often tinged with derision, which seduces us, only to reach us again. She addresses the inner child within us.
Fab Rideti stages her photographs by creating imaginary characters that she dresses up in her own way to better tell her story

Rideti wonders today about the emptiness of our quests for having and the capacity of Man to persist in his mistakes. With this series, Naphta Tribes, she makes us aware of the misuse of plastic and its impact on the oceans.

With Naphta Tribes, Rideti was a finalist of several prices:
2021- The 18th Open Photography Prize of the Charleroi Museum of Photography
2021 - Prix de la Photographie de Paris- Mention Honorable
2022: - Arles Off Festival

* The naphtha is a liquid obtained from petroleum refining which constitutes the raw material of plastics.
** The 7th Continent is a gigantic concentration of plastic waste in the ocean in the northeast Pacific, between California and the Hawaiian archipelago. This area is three times the size of France, made up of billions of micro-plastics, resulting from the fragmentation of this material.

Opening reception: Saturday 24 June, 17:00 – 19:00 in the presence of the artist
Opening speech: 18.00 hrs.
The exhibition can be visited from 23 of June to the 31st of July. Opening hours: Thursday, Friday, Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment.
