Presentation

Herman van Nazareth is a belgian artist who works both in Belgium and in Cape Town, South-Africa. After his studies at the Ghent and Antwerp Royal Academy of Art he went already in 1965 to the Michaelis Scool of Fine Arts in Cape Town, South-Africa, were he was considered as one of the protest artists against Apartheid.

One of his paintings was at the time refused on an exhibition as it was 'to expressive' against the political system of that time. His paintings, as well as his bronze sculptures, almost always show a 'lonely' person without a real face but with a very strong character. His bronzes are often the same sculpture but always with a different rough patina that gives the sculpture the look of stone or clay.

Since a few years, Herman is a citoyen d'honneur de Cape Town and his sculpture 'Exuberancy' (height 6 meters) is a well known sculpture in Cape Town.

The paintings and sculptures of Herman have been exhibited in many countries all over the world: China, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, etc.
