Deyan Vekov was born in 1957 in Varna, Bulgaria, on the shores of the Black Sea. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in the city of Sofia and completed his studies in sculpture in 1989.
He learned how to paint with his mother, an official painter under the communist regime. He became a member of the Bulgarian Artists Union in 1990. He is sometimes described as nonconformist, his paintings have a strong tendency towards the technique of Cloisonnism, while refraining from using round shapes and composed by gradients of very subtle colors.
He depicts a magical imaginary world in a very abstract style where geometric shapes, distorsions and overlapping plans articulate. This way he creates strange landscapes, rich in color and with a smooth finish. The volume is striking, in it we discover an imaginary world in three dimensions. They are three dimensional paintings whose abstraction is apparent, the objects are depicted deconstructed.
