Biography
Martin Wong is a Chinese-American painter, born in Portland, United States in 1949. His work, generally characterized by a meticulous blend of social realism and visionary art styles, has been regarded as some of the most emblematic art of the 20th century. The thematic explorations of Wong’s work hinges on the celebration of queer culture, cross-cultural issues, and multilingualism.
The artist’s work has been included in exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Modern Art, Studio Museum in Harlem, and several other notable organizations across the US and the world. Wong died in 1999.
