David Vincent had set up his studio in Grand Bassam, the former colonial capital of Côte d'Ivoire, and received his visitors at the Maison des Artistes in the France quarter, facing the ocean.
Born in Ivory Coast in 1969, David Vincent was very passionate about ancestral traditions and plastic creation. He was one of the artists in vogue in the 2000s in West Africa and has made numerous exhibitions in Abidjan and other African capitals.
His work mixes modernity, originality and tradition, as evidenced by the recurring theme of masks in paintings. He composes pieces where painting and the plant world (branches, bark, gourds, natural fibers such as jute), animal (horns, horsehair) or mineral (shells, cowries, etc.) blend.
There is in his works this brilliant DIY which makes him join the Chaissac and Dubuffets, without knowing whether he has ever been aware of their work.
