Biography
Jules MARTEL, born in 1985 is a trained biologist. At the same time, he followed a visual arts course in Brussels before embarking on an apprenticeship in molecular cuisine for an Australian restaurateur in Sydney. There he exhibited his first resin-based painting works there. Back in Europe, he decides to concentrate on large abstract formats that allow him to explore the material and its contrasts. He thus gives birth to the series of “Shapes” which play on a double level of reading: the first large suggestive shapes emerging from an imaginary world in suspension impose themselves and seem to come out of the picture. When you approach, it's another microscopic universe, made of fragments, hollows, furrows like so many rich and new maps that emerge. Jules Martel lives and works between Paris and Avignon.
