Biography

Florent España, works on the aesthetics of accumulation, in direct connection with the urban environment. A world whose mazes of favelas express density, like the superposition of layers of paint in his canvases, complex patterns inspired by Basquiat, Keith Harring, Rothko or Riopelle.

For his exhibition, the artist once again uses the motif from the “Popporn” series, highlighting an extremely simplified representation of the human silhouette. In his first pop porn (2010), Florent España expressed a part of human nature: “when pop becomes porn”, ie when man consumes man. Then he simplified the motif in order to represent the man in another facet. Pop porn then becomes a writing on crossbreeding, on mutation, on gathering, on unity, on the mixing of cultures. The intertwined, nested men or women draw an identifiable form: without the other, the man is nothing. The force of the motif is its almost primitive simplicity but which is nonetheless comparable to “street art” since its propensity to be used is infinite.
