Biography
Maarten Stuer was bon in 1965 in Yokohama, Japan. He is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, where he specialized in graphic arts, drawing and lithography. Maarten Stuer moved to Barcelona in the 1990s, where he learned to work with clay. In 1995 he moved to the Gers, France, where he still lives.
In the hands of Maarten Stuer, clay no longer seems compact, heavy or inert. Through his imposing ceramic sculptures, he gives this, the ultimate earthly substance, an almost cosmic dimension. The inspiration for his abstract formal language comes from the elements, or from simple, organic, natural structures.
