Biography
Born in 1976 in Amiens, France, Samuel Martin lives and works in Normandy. In 1994 he got his Plastic Arts BA and in 2004 he obtained his Agrégation.
In many of his drawings, Samuel Martin portrays groups of nude young people who seem to pose nonchalantly. Their nudity is not erotic though. The narrative happens against backgrounds of burning houses, vandalized cars, or other catastrophes, that contrasts with the joy displayed by the characters. They seem to be symbols of today's ubiquitous spectacle of the news.
The scenes are suspended in a moment chosen by the artist. We are left to interpret the works and give meaning to the story captured in charcoal.
Samuel Martin is represented by ALB gallery.
