France Gouge

Born August 9, 1949 in Melun, France. She grew up and lived in Paris where she taught the technique of jewelry - Jewelry, then the creation of jewelry in DMA (diploma of craftsmanship) at the Boulle school. She studied drawing at the municipal courts of the city of Paris with the sculptor Bernard Mougin. Self-taught in painting, imaginary, dreamlike, surrealist worlds fascinated her. Then learning jewelry in the 1960s with Professor André Fildier led her to create jewelry from the works of Joan Miro, Kandinsky, Hundertwasser,…. His encounter with the works of realist painters from 1968-1969 at the Comparaison salon in Paris was decisive. She writes: I believed that by painting an imaginary world, I would escape this pain of living. I understood that it is reality that must be tamed. It is she who makes us love and suffer. It is in her that we must reveal ourselves and live the sublime. France Gouge always begins a work on paper, drawing, watercolor, gouache, wash, colored pencils… She internalizes her composition, caught the most fleeting, before replaying it on the canvas. France Gouge chose the technique of oil painting which she masters since the tension of the canvas on a stretcher, the grinding of the pigments, the firing of oil and varnish, ... fascinated by the richness of this mineral material to capture the life that grazes her, caresses her or claws.
