Eric Stephan

Self-taught, I have been drawing since my teenage years. Very early on, therefore, I developed a passion for comics, American cinema and music, these were my first trips. Even today these universes inspire and influence my work enormously.

It was only later, after a first (real) trip to New York, which left a deep imprint on me, that I really began to paint. My desire was then to manage to transcribe the atmospheres, the colors, the crazy energy which emanates from this city and which filled my brain.

My current work is oriented towards the city, but it is more focused on nightlife. At night and its illuminated signs, the neon lights of the stores reflecting on soggy pavements, a low-lying sunset and its impressive shadows.

The night contrasts sharply with the abundance of the day. Urban spaces are deserted and become almost wild again. Wandering becomes the norm. It is only at night that certain things are finally revealed and sometimes also to ourselves.
