Biography

Waldemar Umiastowski graduated from the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 1981, where he worked later on. His first paintings, created in the spirit of the New Expression, were enormous panels ("panneaux"). At the exhibition organized in 1997 by the Center for Contemporary Art, he showed a set of paintings composed of the repeated motif. He belongs to a generation influenced by the New York School and abstract expressionism.  

Currently, he works in oil painting, applied art as well as teaches at Atelier Foksal. He has had 24 solo exhibitions and participated in 23 group exhibitions. Umiastowski's work can be found in the public and private collections in Poland, Germany, France, Sweden, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United States
