The most prominent representatives of the generation of painters during perestroika and post-perestroika of the Soviet Union are Sanal Boldyrev (1961) and Eduard Sangadzhiev (1962), the first professional artists in the modern history of Kalmykia with diplomas from leading capital universities in the specialty “monumental painting".

Boldyrev Sanal Kanievich, who studied at the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after. I.E. Repin Academy of Arts of the USSR (Leningrad, 1980), who subsequently graduated from the Moscow State Art Institute. V. Surikov (1989), arrived in Elista at the end of 1989, already having successful experience in exhibition activities. Boldyrev's paintings, demonstrated at the “Youth of the Country" and “Moscow International Youth" exhibitions, were awarded diplomas from the USSR Ministry of Culture and the USSR Academy of Arts (1985). His works undergo a competitive selection by exhibition committees of authoritative forums - the International Exhibition of Young Artists of Socialist Countries in Moscow (1988), the Moscow Youth Exhibition "Moscow - Leningrad" (1989). S.K. Boldyrev presents paintings from Kalmykia at the All-Russian exhibition “Artists of the Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, Autonomous Regions, National Districts of the RSFSR" (Moscow, 1989), Regional Art Exhibition “South of Russia" (Krasnodar, 1990)
