Presentation

The concept of a picture is an expression of memories and traces. Some objects are reprocessed and expressed, or they are expressed by a multi-step work process. But the result (surface) is expressed little by little with inner feeling.  Memory always comes in pieces. The trail can not contain the whole. I want to overcome these limitations with imagination. There seems to be nothing as free as imagination. The memories we have experienced, our memories, come from our imagination.

My work begins with a trace. It is also a narrative of a community that includes homogeneous consciousness because it is also an intimate personal affair of the artist. Find the traces of time and space that can not be confirmed and reconstitute it as a painting. It is a fragmentary personal sign and at the same time a collective history of a universal group. I always look for these traces from my surroundings to express inspiration for the strata or traces of time someone has left.  In other words, finding a trail starts with looking at the memory from my own past, and it brings up collective memories from my neighbors, or from an anonymous collective community. Through the reproduction of memory, it becomes the work of connecting the present 'I' and the past 'us'.

The images of the traces are expressed using old plywood which has been accumulated for a long time and naturally obtained various colors. I tried to use the medium as it is almost free from color due to weathering, and to see the traces of time. Show the narrative of the poor community that is pushed out of the city, and the objects as the color texture of the image reveal the stratum of time.  It is a work reproduced by the old plywood which is taken from there for the figure which is being removed for redevelopment. The number of the title of the work is the number of the place and it is a landscape that may not exist now. I feel lonely and depressed that I have to leave behind my home and my memories with indiscreet removal.
