Biography

Frank McCarthy is known for his nostalgic depictions of the American West. Highly realistic and dynamic, McCarthy’s painting and prints captured the motion and drama of cowboys, horses, and Native Americans in desert landscapes. Born on March 30, 1924 in New York, NY, the artist studied at the Art Students League as a teenager and later enrolled at the Pratt Institute for three years to pursue illustration. He began his career as a commercial artist and went on to design iconic movie posters for James Bond films. In 1968, McCarthy moved to Arizona to focus on his own work. He died on November 17, 2002 in Sedona, Arizona.
